Dubai – The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a series of weather warnings across the UAE as the country faces widespread dust storms and powerful winds. Residents are being urged to remain indoors, especially those with respiratory issues or dust allergies, as the current weather poses serious health and safety risks.

Yellow and orange alerts have been issued for various regions, with the NCM highlighting that these conditions are expected to last until at least 9 PM tonight. Among the most affected areas are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Al Ain, where visibility has dropped drastically.

Visibility Drops Across the UAE

According to NCM reports, visibility has been reduced to below 3,000 meters in many areas, and in the most severe locations, it has plummeted to as low as 100 meters. These conditions are being caused by strong northwesterly winds, which are currently blowing at speeds of 15 to 25 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 40 km/h.

The dusty weather began earlier this morning, and as it intensified throughout the day, the NCM issued further alerts for Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and parts of Dubai. The center described the weather as “very dusty and windy,” advising people to avoid unnecessary travel.

Police Urge Motorists to Drive Safely

In response to the hazardous conditions, Abu Dhabi Police have issued safety reminders to motorists. Drivers are being strongly advised to exercise extreme caution on the roads, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and avoid distractions such as mobile phone use or recording videos while driving. Authorities emphasize that visibility on many roads is dangerously low and could lead to accidents if precautions are not taken.

Dusty Skies to Clear Gradually

While the dusty and hazy weather is expected to persist for most of the day, forecasters anticipate a gradual improvement by the evening. According to the NCM, dust levels should begin to decrease after 6 PM. However, health experts warn that dust in the air may still linger and could continue to affect people with asthma or dust allergies, even after the skies begin to clear.

High Temperatures and Humidity Intensify Conditions

Despite the thick layer of dust, the heat across the country remains intense. The highest temperature recorded today was a scorching 45.4°C in Sweihan, Al Ain, at 12:30 PM. Other parts of the country, including coastal regions in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, saw daytime temperatures ranging between 30 and 38°C.

Humidity levels are also expected to climb significantly, with the maximum forecasted at 90%. This is likely to make conditions feel even warmer, particularly during the night. High humidity, combined with the residual dust, raises the chance of fog formation in several internal and coastal areas overnight, which could further affect visibility early tomorrow morning.

NCM Warns of Rough Sea Conditions

In addition to the onshore weather issues, maritime conditions have also prompted concern. The NCM has issued a yellow alert for rough seas, warning of potentially high waves in offshore areas. These rough conditions are expected to persist until at least 6 PM. Residents planning to visit the beach are advised to postpone their plans, as strong winds are expected to make the sea unsafe for swimming or water activities.

Public Urged to Stay Updated

The NCM continues to monitor weather developments closely and is advising the public to stay updated through official channels. People are encouraged to follow weather alerts, take necessary precautions, and avoid risky activities such as long drives or outdoor workouts during the dusty period.

As the UAE braces for more unstable weather throughout the day, residents are reminded that safety comes first. Whether on the road, at home, or near the coast, exercising caution is key until the conditions return to normal.
