After a 14-year absence, Taco Bell is officially making its return to the UAE, with Americana Restaurants announcing an exclusive partnership to relaunch the iconic Mexican-inspired fast-food brand and expand it across the Gulf region.
The agreement, signed between Americana Restaurants and Taco Bell UK & Europe, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, positions the UAE as the first stop in a broader GCC expansion strategy. Dubai is expected to host the first outlet before the brand rolls out to other Gulf markets.
“Taco Bell is the coolest brand in its category, built for a generation that wants great flavour, great value and a little attitude,” said Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of Americana Restaurants. “Dubai adopts what’s bold and tells the world about it. We will start here, get it right, and scale Taco Bell across the UAE and the GCC.”
The move marks Americana’s entry into the Mexican-inspired quick-service restaurant segment while strengthening its long-standing relationship with Yum! Brands, whose portfolio already includes KFC and Pizza Hut, both operated by Americana across the region.
A Second Chance in the UAE
Taco Bell first entered the UAE market in 2008 but exited in 2012 after operating several locations. While the company never publicly detailed the reasons behind its departure, the UAE’s dining landscape has evolved significantly over the past decade.
The growing popularity of Mexican cuisine, coupled with the success of international brands targeting younger consumers, could create a more favorable environment for Taco Bell’s return. Industry observers point to the arrival of brands such as Chipotle as evidence of increasing consumer appetite for Mexican-inspired food in the Emirates.
Global Brand, Regional Ambitions
Founded in California in 1962, Taco Bell has grown into one of the world’s largest fast-food chains, serving tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and its signature Crunchwrap Supreme. Today, the company operates more than 9,000 restaurants worldwide, including over 1,200 locations across 40 international markets outside the United States.
Sean Tresvant, Chief Executive Officer of Taco Bell, said the UAE market represents an important step in the company’s international growth journey.
“We’re excited to continue our strong international momentum in the UAE, connect with a new generation of fans and bring the creativity, innovation and unmistakable Taco Bell experience that only our brand can deliver.”
Americana Expands Its Portfolio
Taco Bell will join Americana Restaurants’ extensive portfolio of global food brands across the Middle East, North Africa and Kazakhstan. The company already manages household names including KFC, Pizza Hut, Hardee’s, Krispy Kreme, Costa Coffee and Baskin-Robbins, among others.
With no official opening date announced yet, food enthusiasts across the UAE will be watching closely as the brand prepares for its long-awaited comeback.
For Taco Bell, the return is more than a relaunch. It is a strategic attempt to capture a new generation of Gulf consumers and establish a stronger footprint across one of the world’s fastest-growing restaurant markets.
