Fairmont Mumbai Sets a New Benchmark for Luxury Wellness in India

From Art Deco elegance to longevity-focused therapies, the newly opened hotel redefines five-star hospitality near Mumbai’s international airport

by Soofiya

As India’s luxury hospitality landscape continues to evolve, Fairmont Mumbai is emerging as a standout — not only for its striking design and prime airport location, but for its bold focus on wellness, longevity and recovery-driven travel.

Located adjacent to Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the hotel is just a short drive from arrivals, making it especially appealing for travellers from the Gulf. Yet, despite its proximity to one of Asia’s busiest aviation hubs, Fairmont Mumbai offers a sense of calm that feels far removed from the city’s intensity.

Opened in April last year, the property is among Mumbai’s newest five-star hotels and draws inspiration from New York’s Art Deco golden era, blending historic architectural motifs with modern luxury tailored to today’s international traveller.

A Grand Arrival Experience

The journey from the airport offers a brief introduction to Mumbai’s vibrant energy, but stepping into Fairmont’s lobby marks a clear shift in pace. The interior is defined by black-and-white geometric flooring, a soaring patterned glass ceiling and warm gold accents that create an atmosphere of understated glamour.

Dominating the lobby is a striking artwork titled A Walk in the Gardens, inspired by Mumbai’s iconic Hanging Gardens. With a radiant sun at its centre and floral motifs surrounding it, the installation serves as both a visual anchor and a nod to the city’s cultural heritage.

Check-in is efficient and seamless, and even during peak hours, the lobby maintains a composed, unhurried feel — an immediate contrast to the bustle outside.

Spacious Suites with Airport-Proof Silence

Fairmont Mumbai features 446 rooms and suites, designed with both business and leisure travellers in mind. Staying in a Fairmont Suite highlights the hotel’s attention to space and comfort. At 87 square metres, the suite includes a separate bedroom, living and dining area, walk-in wardrobe and a generous bathroom with a rainfall shower and stand-alone bathtub, along with a separate guest powder room.

Technology and convenience are thoughtfully integrated, from wall-mounted clothing steamers to centralised lighting and curtain controls, alongside ample USB, USB-C and universal charging points.

Perhaps most impressive is the soundproofing. Despite the hotel’s location next to the airport, rooms remain exceptionally quiet, with no audible aircraft or corridor noise — a critical feature for transit travellers and long-haul guests.

A Diverse Culinary Offering

Dining is a central part of the Fairmont Mumbai experience, with five food and beverage venues catering to a wide range of tastes.

The Merchants serves as the hotel’s all-day dining venue, designed as a modern food hall with high ceilings, geometric design elements and a relaxed yet lively atmosphere. Breakfast is buffet-style, featuring Indian, Asian, American and Italian options, alongside interactive stations, including a teppanyaki-style ice cream counter.

Other venues include The Hedonist, a 1920s-inspired bar; Madeleine De Proust, a refined tea lounge; and Oryn, a Chinese restaurant specialising in Sichuan and Cantonese flavours. A Mediterranean restaurant, Samaa, is set to further expand the hotel’s culinary portfolio.

In-room dining is notably extensive, offering multi-cuisine options as well as a dedicated “under the weather” menu designed for guests seeking lighter, restorative meals.

Wellness Takes Centre Stage

What truly sets Fairmont Mumbai apart is its emphasis on longevity and science-backed wellness. The hotel is home to Blu Xone, India’s first longevity-focused wellness suite, inspired by the world’s Blue Zone regions — areas known for high life expectancy linked to lifestyle, diet and movement.

Blu Xone offers advanced regenerative therapies including cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red light therapy, intermittent vacuum therapy and intermittent hypoxic therapy. These treatments are designed to support recovery, boost circulation, enhance skin health and improve overall vitality.

Sessions range from brief three-minute cryotherapy treatments at –85°C to hour-long hyperbaric oxygen sessions, all overseen by trained medical and wellness professionals. Traditional spa services, including massages and facials, are also available for guests seeking a more conventional wellness experience.

Facilities for Business, Leisure and Families

Beyond wellness, the hotel features a rooftop infinity pool, a fully equipped fitness centre, sauna and steam rooms. Business travellers benefit from extensive meeting spaces, large ballrooms and rooftop event venues, reinforcing the property’s appeal for corporate and destination events.

Families are also well catered for, with a children’s pool, a dedicated Tiny Town Kids’ Club, and even child-friendly spa treatments. However, guests should note that the hotel is primarily a destination property, with limited attractions within walking distance and city-centre journeys taking up to 45 minutes or more depending on traffic.

Sustainability and Accessibility

Fairmont Mumbai holds Green Globe Certification, reflecting its commitment to environmental responsibility. Sustainability initiatives include glass bottled water, biodegradable straws, waste reduction programmes and food waste management systems.

Accessibility has been thoughtfully incorporated, with wheelchair access across public areas, adapted guest rooms and facilities for hearing-impaired guests, including visual alert systems.

With rooms starting from around $200 (Dh735) per night, Fairmont Mumbai positions itself as a compelling option for Gulf travellers seeking a seamless blend of luxury, wellness and convenience.

More than just an airport hotel, Fairmont Mumbai represents a shift in India’s luxury hospitality — one where longevity-focused wellness meets refined design, offering travellers a restorative pause in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
