Jordan’s Royal Family Unveils First End-of-Year Portrait as Grandparents

Queen Rania shares a heartfelt family moment blending tradition, elegance and new beginnings as the Hashemite family welcomes the year ahead

Jordan’s royal family has unveiled its much-anticipated end-of-year portrait, continuing a long-standing tradition of coordinated festive photographs. This year’s image, however, carries added emotional weight as it marks the first official family portrait of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania as grandparents.

Shared by Queen Rania on Instagram over the weekend, the photograph quickly captured attention across the region and beyond — celebrated not only for its warmth and generational symbolism, but also for the royal family’s signature sense of understated elegance.

“May the bonds of family and love continue to grow in the year ahead,” Queen Rania wrote in her caption, echoing the message of unity and hope conveyed through the image.

The portrait offers a rare and intimate glimpse into the Hashemite family’s expanding lineage. King Abdullah II is seen holding Princess Amina, the daughter of Princess Iman and her husband Jameel Thermiotis, while Queen Rania cradles infant Princess Iman, the first child of Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa. Walking behind them are the proud parents, with the king and queen’s younger children — Prince Hashem and Princess Salma — completing the family line-up.

Visually, the portrait is defined by a soothing palette of soft blues and pistachio green, reflecting harmony, renewal and calm — a colour story that resonates strongly with the spirit of the New Year.

Queen Rania wears an elegant Oscar de la Renta butterfly-belt midi dress, styled with Jennifer Chamandi Lorenzo 105 pumps, blending modern femininity with regal poise. Princess Iman complements the look in a coordinated Alaïa wool peplum top and maxi skirt, while Princess Salma opts for a refined Issa London blouse, paired with Jennifer Chamandi Lore 85 white patent pumps.

The men of the family adopt a relaxed yet refined aesthetic, dressed in crisp untucked shirts in varying shades of blue, paired with neutral-toned trousers, reinforcing the portrait’s cohesive and contemporary feel.

Renowned across the Arab world for her refined fashion sensibility, Queen Rania continues to command global style attention. Just last month, at the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, the queen wore a custom red Dolce & Gabbana design, reworked from a full-length gown into a mid-length silhouette featuring elegant waist draping. She completed the look with a white Bottega Veneta clutch and Louboutin pumps.

At the same high-profile event, Princess Salma also drew notice in a black Alaïa dress, accessorised with a gold Fendi handbag and gold Jennifer Chamandi heels, underscoring the next generation’s growing presence on the regional fashion stage.

As the Jordanian royal family steps into the New Year, this portrait stands as both a celebration of family milestones and a reflection of enduring grace — a message that resonates strongly across the Gulf and the wider Arab world.
