Thousands of Geely Emgrand Sedans Recalled in the UAE Over Fuel System Concern

AGMC, the authorised distributor of Geely vehicles in the UAE, has issued a large-scale recall affecting 5,584 Geely Emgrand sedans, citing a potential issue linked to the vehicle’s fuel system. The recall follows a notification from the Chinese automaker identifying a defect in a non-vented fuel filler cap installed in Emgrand models manufactured between August 3, 2023, and July 4, 2024. According to Geely, the faulty component could cause a vacuum to build up in the fuel system during prolonged use. In extreme cases, the pressure imbalance may lead to fuel tank deformation, increasing the risk of fuel leakage if the issue remains unaddressed. As part of the recall, AGMC said affected vehicles will undergo a fuel filler cap replacement, alongside carbon canister cleaning and a comprehensive inspection of related fuel system components. Any defective parts identified during the inspection will be replaced, with all work carried out at no cost to customers. Owners of Geely Emgrand vehicles in the UAE have been advised to contact AGMC service centres to confirm whether their cars fall under the recall and to schedule an appointment. Geely, founded in 1986, is one of China’s largest automotive conglomerates and owns or holds stakes in several global brands, including Volvo Cars, Polestar, Lotus, Zeekr and Lynk & Co. In recent years, the group has expanded aggressively across international markets, positioning itself as a key player in both traditional combustion-engine vehicles and the fast-growing electric mobility segment. The Geely Emgrand, first launched in 2009, marked the brand’s strategic push towards a more premium offering. The model has since gained popularity in several markets, with the Emgrand GT winning China Car of the Year in 2016. AGMC, established in 1976, is among the UAE’s most established automotive groups. Best known as the official importer of BMW and Mini vehicles in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, the company has in recent years expanded its portfolio to include leading Chinese automotive brands. “Customer safety and satisfaction remain our top priorities,” said Prasanth Karthikeyan, head of aftersales for Geely Brands at AGMC. “Our trained technicians will swiftly replace the affected component and ensure customers can continue driving with confidence.” The recall comes amid heightened scrutiny of vehicle safety standards across the UAE automotive sector. In September, Nissan recalled 1,661 Patrol vehicles from its Y63 model range in the country due to a defect in the torque transfer control unit, underscoring the industry’s increasing focus on proactive safety measures.
