Travel between India and the Philippines just got a major boost. Starting October 1, Air India will operate direct flights from Delhi to Manila five times a week, opening new doors for tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
This comes after the Philippines introduced visa-free entry for Indian travelers in June, while India reciprocated by extending the same privilege to Philippine nationals from August 1.
For Gulf-based travelers with strong ties to India or the Philippines, this development creates a smoother and more convenient way to explore two of Asia’s most vibrant destinations.
The New Flight Route
Air India’s new service will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- AI2362 (Delhi–Manila): Departs Delhi at 1.20pm local time
- AI2361 (Manila–Delhi): Departs Manila at 11.40pm local time
The resumption of direct connectivity was first announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August during the official visit of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to India.
Visa-Free Entry: What Gulf-Based Indians Need to Know
For Indians living in the UAE and wider Gulf, this policy shift means travel to the Philippines is now more seamless than ever. Indian nationals can enjoy:
- 14 days visa-free entry (non-extendable), provided they have:
- A passport valid for six months beyond stay
- Confirmed hotel bookings
- Proof of financial means
- Return or onward ticket
- 30 days visa-free entry if they already hold a valid visa or residence permit from US, Japan, Australia, Canada, Schengen, Singapore, or the UK (AJACSSUK).
This new convenience is expected to increase tourism flow from India and the Gulf region into the Philippines.
Visa-Free Entry for Filipinos Visiting India
Philippine citizens can now also travel to India visa-free for up to 30 days. They must apply online at least four days before travel and no more than 30 days in advance. Requirements include:
- Passport valid for at least six months
- Hotel booking or accommodation details
- Proof of sufficient funds
- Return or onward ticket
Those staying longer, or traveling for business, study, or medical purposes, will still need to apply for the appropriate visa.
Why the Philippines Appeals to Gulf Travelers
For Gulf residents — especially the large Indian and Filipino expatriate communities — this route enhances travel opportunities, whether for holidays, family visits, or cultural exploration.
With more than 7,000 islands, the Philippines is a natural wonderland offering something for every traveler. Here are some highlights:
- Cebu – Spanish colonial history, Magellan’s Cross, and whale shark encounters
- Bohol – The famous Chocolate Hills and rare tarsiers
- Boracay – White-sand beaches and vibrant nightlife
- El Nido, Palawan – Hidden lagoons and dramatic cliffs
- Siargao – The surfing capital with pristine waters and a relaxed vibe
- Intramuros, Manila – The walled city rich in history and heritage
- Vigan – A UNESCO-listed Spanish colonial town
- Clark – Mount Pinatubo trekking and hot springs
- Makati & BGC – The modern face of Metro Manila with shopping, dining, and nightlife
Connectivity from the Gulf
Travelers from the UAE already enjoy direct flights to Manila, Cebu, and Clark through Emirates, Etihad Airways, Philippine Airlines, and Cebu Pacific. With Air India’s Delhi–Manila route, Indian expats in the Gulf now have an even stronger link between South Asia and Southeast Asia.
Final Word from The Gulf Talk
The launch of Air India’s direct flights to Manila, paired with mutual visa-free travel, marks a new chapter in India–Philippines relations. For Gulf-based travelers, it means more holiday choices, easier family connections, and stronger cultural ties between two dynamic Asian nations.
Whether it’s soaking up the beaches of Boracay, exploring colonial streets in Vigan, or enjoying the urban buzz of Manila, the Philippines is now closer than ever for Indian travelers across the Gulf.
