Thousands of Geely Emgrand sedans have been recalled across the UAE after a safety issue was identified in the vehicle’s fuel system, prompting swift action from the brand’s local distributor, AGMC.
The recall affects 5,584 Geely Emgrand vehicles manufactured between August 3, 2023, and July 4, 2024. AGMC confirmed the move followed a notification from Chinese automaker Geely regarding a defect linked to the fuel filler cap fitted in certain models.
According to Geely, the affected cars are equipped with a non-vented fuel filler cap that may cause a vacuum to build up in the fuel system after extended periods of driving. In rare and extreme cases, this pressure could deform the fuel tank and increase the risk of a fuel leak.
AGMC said all affected vehicles will undergo free corrective servicing, including replacement of the fuel filler cap. Technicians will also clean the carbon canister and inspect related fuel system components, replacing any parts found to be defective.
Owners of Geely Emgrand sedans in the UAE have been advised to contact AGMC directly to confirm whether their vehicle is included in the recall and to book a service appointment.
Geely, founded in 1986, is one of China’s largest automotive groups and owns or holds stakes in several global brands, including Volvo Cars, Polestar, Lotus, Zeekr and Lynk & Co. The company has rapidly expanded its international footprint, positioning itself as a major player in both traditional and electric vehicle segments.
The Geely Emgrand, launched in 2009, marked the brand’s shift toward a more premium offering. The model gained significant recognition in its extended form, with the Emgrand GT winning China Car of the Year in 2016.
AGMC, established in 1976, is among the UAE’s most established automotive groups. Widely known as the official importer of BMW and Mini vehicles in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, the company has recently expanded its portfolio to include a growing number of Chinese automotive brands.
Commenting on the recall, Prasanth Karthikeyan, head of aftersales for Geely Brands at AGMC, said customer safety remains the company’s top priority, adding that trained technicians are ready to resolve the issue quickly and efficiently.
The Geely recall follows other recent automotive safety actions in the UAE. In September, Nissan recalled 1,661 Patrol Y63 vehicles due to a defect in the torque transfer control unit, underscoring the industry’s continued focus on vehicle safety and regulatory compliance.
